Endoscopy: What are the Different Types of Endoscopes Used?
Although common, endoscopy is a truly fascinating procedure performed for diagnostic and even therapeutic purposes. It would be interesting to know that in endoscopy, there are several types of endoscopes used and each kind of endoscope is usually named after the organ it aims to examine. The following are some of the most common kinds of endoscope and where they are usually used:
- Arthroscope- used to assess the joints
- Angioscope- used to assess the blood vessels
- Bronchoscope- used to assess the bronchus or the lower parts of the respiratory tract
- Colonoscope- used to assess the large intestines or the colon
- Cystoscope- used to assess the urinary bladder
- Gastroscope- used to assess the parts of the upper gastro-intestinal tract
- Hysteroscope- used to assess the uterus
