Common Damage Of Endoscopes
Endoscopes suffer damage even through normal use but many of these are preventable. Most of the reasons that endoscopes are sent for repair are due to improper care and handling. Here are some preventable and non-preventable damage of endoscopes:
- Severe angulation system failures, broken knobs or wires
- Repeated holes in bending rubber
- Repeated biopsy/suction channel kinks or holes
- Insertion tube buckling, dents, bites peeling
- Light fiber damage
- Almost all fluid invasion damage
- Distal end impact damage
- Air/water nozzle clogs
- Occasional holes in bending rubber
- Some angulation system adjustments
- Insertion tubes that are worn and weak due to age and use
