How Are Endoscopes Checked For Damage
There are different ways to check for any damage on an endoscope. It is all about paying attention to the smallest of details when it comes to this delicate medical instrument. One way of testing it for damage is through leak testing. Not putting an endoscope under this test can increase the number of leaks that can cause to fluid-related scope damage. To avoid any leaks, it is important to avoid doing the following:
- Placing a scope in fluid prior to inflating it for testing
- Not removing the biopsy port cover and function valves before testing
- Not completely submerging the scope
- Adding enzymatic cleaner to the leak-test water
- Minimizing the time and attention for the inspection
- Not evacuating air pockets from the channels
- Allowing untrained personnel to perform the leak test
- Not having a sink of adequate size
- Inadequate lighting
