The Different Types of Endoscopes
Endoscopes can be used in virtually all parts of the body. Each part has a specific type of endoscope used. For example, in the gastrointestinal tract, specifically in the colon or the large intestine, colonoscopes are used. This type of endoscope is perhaps the most common among all. The other types are as follows:
- Esophagoscope - for the examination of the esophagus
- Encephaloscope - for the examination of the cerebral cavities
- Bronchoscope - for the examination of the bronchis and its internal structures
- Rhinoscope - for the examination of the nasal cavities
- Angioscope - for the examination of the blood vessels
- Thoracoscpe - for the examination of the pleural cavity
- Proctoscope - for the examination of the rectum
- Arthroscope - for the examination of the joint
- Nephroscope - for the examination of the kidneys
