Cleaning And Disinfection Of Endoscopes
The cleaning and disinfection of endoscopes can be broken down into several stages: pre-cleaning, leak testing, brushing, manual flushing, rinsing, sterilization, rinse after disinfection, and alcohol flush.
- Pre-cleaning – This should be done at the bedside immediately after each examination.
- Leak testing – This should be performed prior to pre-soaking the endoscopes and prior to cleaning your endoscope after procedure.
- Leak testing – If you notice continuous bubbling from the endoscope, it may indicate the presence of a leak.
- Brushing – Use low foaming detergent solution and concentration to brush the endoscopes.
- Manual flushing – After this step, the endoscope is ready for reprocessing via washing machine.
- Disinfection – All disinfection steps should be done with the endoscope and all equipment completely immersed.
